Ærø is one of the loveliest gems of Det Sydfynske Øhav (the South Funen Archipelago), where gentle hills, winding farm tracks and hedgerows make up a calm, small-scale landscape. The island's hilly terrain of fields, salt meadows and sea views turns every dog walk into a little voyage of discovery. There are big skies and plenty of room for long walks in one of Denmark's most charming island landscapes.
On Ærø you'll find dog parks in peaceful surroundings, including Egehovedskoven near Marstal, where the woodland gives shade and shelter on warm days. It's a lovely place to let your dog sniff around and roam between the trees. Although the choice of dog parks is limited, the nature around them is of high quality.
Ærø's coast has fine beaches and clear water for swimming, and the island has a designated dog beach where your dog may swim and run off-lead all year round. On the island's ordinary beaches your dog must be on a lead from 1 April to 30 September and may only run off-lead from 1 October to 31 March, always under full control. That way both dogs and swimmers have a good time by the water.
