Dog parks in Thy

Thy lies at the far north-western tip of Jutland and is one of Denmark's most dramatic natural areas, with vast dunes, dune plantations, heathland and the Danish North Sea coast as its neighbour. Much of the region is part of Nationalpark Thy (Thy National Park), and the open, rugged landscape of heather and pine forest is a superb setting for long dog walks. Here you will find fresh sea air, wide horizons and silence far from the city.

In Thy the dog parks are typically large dune plantations with woodland, shelter and plenty of space, and the terrain varies between forest floor and open areas. Vilsbøl Klitplantage and Østerild Klitplantage are among the dog parks where you can take long walks in beautiful countryside. Although most places are open plantations rather than fenced dog parks, there is lots of room to stretch your legs.

The coast of Thy is dominated by the wide beaches and high dunes of the Danish North Sea coast, and the region has a designated dog beach at Vigsø. On ordinary beaches, dogs must be on a lead from 1 April to 30 September and may only run off-lead from 1 October to 31 March, always under control. Only on the official dog beach may your dog swim and run off-lead all year round.
