Højbjerg lies in the southern part of Aarhus, squeezed in between Marselisborgskovene (the Marselisborg woods), Moesgård and the coast facing Aarhus Bugt. The town has beech woods, manor landscape and beach within walking distance, and you are rarely far from either forest floor or salty air. That makes Højbjerg one of the best places in Aarhus to have a dog.
In and around Højbjerg you will find several woodland dog areas and dog parks, from Moesgård Skov and Havreballe Skov to the military area at Marselisborg, where dogs are welcome. There are large dog parks with shade and networks of paths as well as puppy-friendly areas where the youngest can play safely. Head for Moesgård Skov or Havreballe Skov, for example, when your dog needs a good run in real beech woodland.
The coast along Aarhus Bugt is right on your doorstep, including Moesgård Strand and Ballehage, so a beach walk is easy to fit in. Remember that on ordinary beaches dogs must be on a lead from 1 April to 30 September and may only run off-lead from 1 October to 31 March, always under control. Only on an official dog beach may your dog swim and run off-lead all year, so check the signs at the beach.
