Kalkærparken Hundegård

Kalkærparken Hundegård is a cosy, local, fully fenced dog area in Højbjerg in the southern part of Aarhus. It lies in the green residential and park area by the Kalkærparken housing estate, near Ringvej Syd. It was set up as a fenced haven where local dogs from the area can meet, play and socialise off-lead in safe surroundings. The dog area is fully fenced with a solid, well-kept wire fence that keeps the dogs safely inside. You enter through a practical airlock with double gates, so you can take your dog in and out calmly without the other dogs slipping out in the meantime. The ground is completely flat and grassy, surrounded by scattered trees and bushes that give the dogs good spots to sniff. As the surface is even lawn, the area is very easy and comfortable for everyone to get around, including people with limited mobility or dog owners with prams. Be prepared, though, for the grass to get a bit soft and muddy in the very wet winter months. There are fixed table-and-bench sets inside the fenced area, so owners can sit down and put the world to rights while the dogs play. There are also bins by the entrances, so it is easy to get rid of dog bags. If you come by car, you can use the public parking in the residential area at Kalkærparken. From there, paths lead straight to the entrance gates without crossing the area's big, busy roads. For locals in and around Højbjerg it is also very easy to walk or cycle there along the many paths.
