Dog parks in and near Sønderborg

Sønderborg has a beautiful setting on Alssund, with Als on one side and the mainland of Southern Jutland on the other. The town is surrounded by beech woods, coastal slopes and the open sound, and both beach and woodland edge are close by. That makes everyday dog walks varied, whether you head along the water or into the woods.

In and around Sønderborg you will find a number of woodland dog areas and fenced dog parks where your dog can stretch its legs among tall trees and shady paths. Sønderskoven Hundeskov lies close to town, and a little further out places such as Madeskov and the dog parks near Gråsten offer plenty of space and shelter. The woodland gives shade on hot days, and several of the places are easy to walk for both puppies and older dogs.

Sønderborg is a coastal town, and the water is never far away. On ordinary beaches your dog must be on a lead from 1 April to 30 September and may only run off-lead again from 1 October to 31 March, always under control. If you want your dog to both swim and run off-lead all year round, you need to find an official dog beach where this is allowed.
