Aabenraa lies beautifully at the head of Aabenraa Fjord, surrounded by hilly wooded slopes and deep river valleys in Southern Jutland. Nature close to the town alternates between broadleaf woodland, fjord coast and open fields, which makes everyday dog walks both varied and scenic. The combination of woods and water gives plenty of scope for long walks all year.

In and around Aabenraa you will find several woodland dog areas and fenced dog parks where your dog can enjoy the forest floor and shade. Nørreskov i Aabenraa stretches along the fjord with good paths, while Frøslev Plantage (not fenced) offers large, continuous woodland. Several places have agility equipment and puppy-friendly areas, and a private dog park adds to the public woods if you want a fenced alternative.

Aabenraa is close to the coast, and by the fjord there is an official dog beach where your dog may swim and run off-lead all year, under control. On ordinary beaches, however, dogs must be on a lead from 1 April to 30 September, while your dog may run off-lead from 1 October to 31 March.

Always remember to keep full control of your dog, whatever the season.
