Nørreskov i Aabenraa

All of Nørreskoven in Aabenraa is designated as a dog park. The forest covers around 94 hectares, equivalent to approximately 130 football pitches, and is in the northern part of the town near Høje Kolstrup, just under 2 km from the centre. It is managed by Naturstyrelsen (the Danish Nature Agency) and is one of the most popular dog parks in Southern Jutland. This is a dense, shady forest with deciduous and coniferous trees, rolling terrain and steep hills. Small streams run through the woodland, and there are several ponds and wetland areas where your dog can go into the water. If your dog loves swimming, be prepared for a wet and muddy return. The paths can also become muddy after rain. You can choose from several circular walks, using both wide gravel tracks and narrow nature trails. The dog park is not fenced. You can let your dog off the lead as long as you keep your dog in sight and under control. The forest is also popular with walkers, runners and mountain bikers, so call your dog back when other people approach. Free parking is available at several places around the forest, including Nørreskovvej, Lindbjergskovvej, Høje Kolstrup Skole and the lay-by where Kolstrupvej crosses Camma Larsen-Ledets Vej. There are benches and rubbish bins in the forest. No water point or toilet is listed, so bring drinking water for your dog. The paths are not suitable for wheelchairs. Along the way, you can see the remains of a military shooting range dating from the late 19th century. South of the forest is the town's former gallows hill, now a viewpoint overlooking Aabenraa and the fjord.
