Amager Fælled fritløbsområde

Amager Fælled Fritløbsområde is a popular spot for dog owners close to the city, centrally located in Copenhagen (København). The off-leash area itself covers a compact 0.5 hectares (5,000 m²), about 0.7 of an international football pitch. Unlike traditional dog parks, this off-leash area is not fenced. It is simply a designated zone, marked with posts and signs showing the boundary. The open ground asks a lot of you as an owner: you need 100% reliable recall and full control, as your dog must never leave the marked zone. If your dog has a strong hunting instinct, choose a fully fenced dog area instead. Most of Amager Fælled is home to protected wildlife and grazing animals such as cattle, horses and sheep. For their sake, there is a strict, non-negotiable rule that dogs must always be on a lead on the rest of the common. So keep your dog on a lead for the whole walk until you are safely inside the off-leash zone. The 0.5-hectare area is on flat ground, with a good mix of open grass for play and scattered trees. As the ground is natural, it quickly gets very muddy in the wet autumn and winter months, so wellies are a must then. There are bins on site, making it easy to clean up after your dog. As Amager Fælled is surrounded by the city, there is no parking right by the area. If you come by car, it's best to use the public car parks along the edges of the common - usually along Artillerivej to the west or the parking areas around DR Byen and Ørestad Nord to the east. From there, walk the last stretch along the common's paths to the marked zone.
