Kærehave Skov Hundeskov

Kærehave Skov Hundeskov is a newly built, fenced dog area in the privately owned Kærehave Skov, the wood closest to town in Naturpark Ringsted. The dog park was created as part of a wider upgrade of the area in 2026 and is a dedicated haven for the town's dog owners. To reach the dog park itself, follow the wood's natural footpaths. As the wood is managed with a strong focus on biodiversity and keeping it wild, the grass on the paths can be fairly long at times. It makes for an authentic nature experience, but practical, waterproof footwear is a good idea. As Kærehave Skov is privately owned (run by Humleore Skovdistrikt), special access rules apply compared with public state forests. Above all, note that the wood - and so also the dog park - is closed from sunset until 06.00 in the morning. Outside the dog park's fence, your dog must always be on a lead out of consideration for the wood's rich wildlife and other visitors. In return, Kærehave Skov offers dog walkers a real bonus: although it is a private wood, you may walk off the paths. This means you and your dog are welcome to leave the marked paths and explore anywhere on the woodland floor, as long as your dog stays on a lead. A visit to the dog park combines well with a longer walk in the area. As part of the latest upgrade, new picnic tables have been put up, and the wood's open fire pits and shelters have new roofs. These fire facilities are free for users in Ringsted Municipality, but you need to book if your group is more than five people. Along the way you can also see the wood's small ponds with newts and the newly planted fruit trees along the woodland edges.
