Dog parks in and near Hirtshals

Hirtshals lies right out by the Skagerrak in northern Vendsyssel, where the sea, the dunes and the large dune plantations shape the whole area. The town is surrounded by rugged coastal nature to the north and calmer plantation forest inland towards Tornby and Tversted. It is a wild and beautiful place to walk your dog.

In and around Hirtshals there are several woodland dog areas and fenced dog parks, with the fenced Hirtshals Hundepark as an obvious meeting point and dune plantations such as Tornby and Tversted nearby. There are fenced dog parks where you can safely let your dog off the lead, and vast dog parks with pine, dunes and fragrant forest floor. The terrain alternates between dense plantation and open dunes.

The Danish North Sea coast (Vesterhavet) is a big part of dog life in Hirtshals, and the beach and dunes are only a few minutes away.

Note that on ordinary beaches dogs must be on a lead from 1 April to 30 September and may only run off-lead from 1 October to 31 March, always under control. Only on an official dog beach may your dog swim and run off-lead all year, so check the signs where you go down to the beach.
