Bratskov Hundeskov

Bratskov Hundeskov is a fenced off-lead area in the new Bratskov woodland just outside Brovst in North Jutland. It covers 2.2 hectares, about three football pitches. That is big enough for your dog to really get running without reaching the fence after a few seconds, which makes a noticeable difference for high-energy dogs. The dog park is run by Naturstyrelsen Vendsyssel (the Danish Nature Agency), and access is free day and night all year round. The ground is forest floor and soil, and paths run through the area, so a visit can become a proper walk rather than a short stop on an open field. The trees give shade on hot days, which is one of the things that sets a dog park in woodland apart from a grassy dog park, and that matters in midsummer. You will find the entrance at Fredensdal 18, 9460 Brovst. There is parking right by the dog park with room for six cars, so you do not have to walk far with an impatient dog on a lead. It is only just over a kilometre from Brovst town, and from here it is about a quarter of an hour's drive to both Fjerritslev and Blokhus, if you want to combine your trip with a day on the west coast. No water point or rubbish bin has been recorded in the area, so it is a good idea to bring water for your dog and bags from home. Outside the fenced area, the usual rules for state forests apply: dogs must be on a lead out of consideration for wildlife and other visitors.
